Martha Sedwick Mavredes CPA, Auditor of Public Accounts
Martha was appointed the Auditor of Public Accounts for the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2013 and is the first woman to hold this position. The APA is the legislative external auditor for all state agencies, higher education institutions, constitutional officers and various boards and authorities under the executive and judicial branches of government. She previously served as the Deputy Auditor of Public Accounts and as Specialty Team Leader for the Reporting & Standards and Higher Education specialty teams.
Prior to joining the APA in 1984, she worked at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) on local government and banking audits.
Martha is an active participant in the National State Auditors Association (NSAA) serving on multiple committees and work groups. She has served as team member, team leader, and concurring reviewer in the NSAA Peer Review Program. She currently serves as the Chair of the Single Audit Committee.
Martha is a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), where she has served on numerous committees, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee. Martha is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) where she is a past Chair of the Government Performance and Accountability Committee and currently serves on Council.
Martha is currently a member of the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) Yellow Book Advisory Council.
Martha graduated with a Bachelor Degree of Business Administration from The College of William and Mary and received her Master Degree of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also attended the Virginia Executive Institute, a management training program for state executives.
